Perdido Key, A Fisherman’s Paradise

No matter what type of fishing you enjoy, deepwater or inland, fly-fishing or trolling for cobia, you can find it in Perdido Key, Florida. When vacationing here you get not one, not two but three bodies of water to fish: Perdido Bay, Old River and, of course, the Gulf of Mexico. Fish from deep sea charter vessels, the pier or even at Gulf Islands National Seashore.

Fishing is big business in the spring, with anglers and boat captains reporting a monster season already. Averaging between 20-40 fish per half day trip, visitors and locals alike are enjoying a busy redfish and sheepshead season. In April and throughout the summer season, the cobia will run and be on every fisherman’s list, with shark season taking hold in May. Out on the beach, be on the lookout for spanish mackerel, pompano, and blue fish.

Deep sea fishing charters are one of the most popular, if not the most popular, activities when visiting the area. Those looking to experience deep sea fishing can expect to find tuna, wahoo, amberjack, snapper, and more when they head out to the fertile waters and artificial reefs of the deep Gulf. Chartering typically takes the hassle out of fishing as well, providing the bait, tackle, and fishing licenses. They will even clean and package your days catch for you!
